NEW FACE COVERING REQUIREMENTS FOR CAMDEN COUNTY SCHOOLS

 Updated 8-14-20

The impact of COVID-19 on our community and the measures our school system has put in place to protect against the virus have both been evolving since the virus first appeared in our county. Due to the increase in the number of positive tests for the COVID-19 virus, Camden County has been designated as a hot spot area in Georgia. After meeting with the Georgia Department of Public Health, Camden Emergency Management Agency, and the Chief of Staff for Southeast Georgia Health System-Camden, Camden County Schools is issuing a mandatory face covering requirement for the safety of our community. The Georgia Department of Education, Camden County Schools Board of Education and Camden County Schools System Steering Committee are all in agreement with this new protocol as a necessary means to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community.
The mandatory face covering requirement will be in effect for all students, staff, and visitors. Face coverings will be required beginning Monday, August 17th.  All students and staff will be required to wear face coverings while on school campus and while riding on our school buses. Exceptions based on medical needs for students and staff must be documented by a physician and that documentation will be treated as confidential and retained in the office of the principal. Some students with disabilities may be exempt based on individual needs as determined by the Director of Special Education. Staff members may remove their face coverings when students are not present and social distancing from other adults is possible. Students and adults may remove their face coverings when they are eating or drinking, or other activities approved by the principal.
From the first day of school, many of our families have already chosen to have their children wear face coverings to school and we appreciate their partnership in working to keep our staff and students safe. We ask parents to provide reusable face coverings for their students, but we will be able to provide face coverings for students who are unable to provide one on their own. We are grateful for the cooperation of our students, staff, and visitors as we work together to keep our schools and community safe.

SAT/ACT Reimbursement Consideration

The school will reimburse students when they sign up to retake the SAT or ACT if they score 500+ on the SAT and 21+ on the ACT. A student may be reimbursed once per school year for each test.  You must provide all three of the following for reimbursement:

1)     Proof of payment (for the upcoming test)
2)     Copy of registration ticket (for the upcoming test)
3)     Copy of prior test scores

Please submit these three items to the Front Office if you qualify.

Parents: Contact Guidance for Fee/Fine Information

Parents and students need to verify fee balances with the Guidance Department (729-7544) not all fees are indicated in PowerSchool.  Outstanding debt may prevent a student from participating in certain activities at CCHS.  That includes dances, Grad Bash, graduation and other events.

Free Parking for Perfect ACT/SAT Score

Students will receive free parking anywhere on campus and a $2400 scholarship if they obtain a perfect score on the SAT or ACT.  See Dr. Loden if you qualify.

Final Exam Exemption - 2020-2021 School Year

Comprehensive exams remain in place for Georgia Milestones End of Course assessments (EOC). We will continue to stress the importance of these exams and use the data to plan for instruction. EOC assessments may not be exempt due to state policy.

In order to maintain continuity with our previous procedure that students found as a major incentive and to alleviate the redundancy of excessive testing, the following criteria will allow students to still exempt Final Exams.

This exemption is an acknowledgement of a student’s exemplary academic effort which has led to the student’s college and career readiness. Teachers and Administration make the final decision on exemptions. The classroom teacher will keep records to validate a student’s eligibility for exempting the final exam.

A student will be exempt from a final exam if they have an 85% or above in their course/courses by 12/11/2020.

Students who are not eligible by the deadline or who drop below 85% in the 3 days leading up to the final exam window, will be required to take a Final Exam. Students who become ineligible after the deadline and do not take a Final will be required to make the Exam up in January or will have a zero entered in as E1.

Students are responsible for turning in all exemption forms by the set date. If students do not turn in exemption forms by the set date, they will not be exempt from the Final during the Final Exam days. Exemption is an acknowledgement of hard work and dedication. There will not be any appeals.
