Camden County Schools celebrated another major investment in the future of Camden County High School on Friday, September 4, with a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Multipurpose Indoor Facility.
Members of the Camden County Board of Education joined district and school leadership, Camden County High School head coaches, and representatives from A+B Architects and Pope Construction to mark the official beginning of construction on the new facility.
Built with responsible Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (ESPLOST) dollars at no additional cost to local property taxpayers, the approximately 104,000-square-foot Multipurpose Indoor Facility will be constructed on the site of the former Camden County High School track to provide a state-of-the-art home for all student-athletes, extracurricular programs, and school events. Featuring a versatile indoor synthetic turf field designed to accommodate multiple sports, NJROTC, band, student activities, and special events, this facility ensures every program has reliable, weather-proof space to train and thrive.
We understand that our school system is at the heart of this county, and when we invest in our system, that investment reaches far beyond our schools and supports the entire Camden County community. This facility is about creating opportunities for our students and providing a space that can serve multiple programs throughout our district. The Multipurpose Indoor Facility is part of approximately $30 million in capital improvements underway at Camden County High School and is funded through voter-approved ESPLOST. Because ESPLOST funds are legally restricted strictly to capital outlays and facility upgrades rather than general operating budgets, this major investment provides our schools with modern, safe, and weather-independent spaces without placing an additional tax burden on local homeowners. Other projects include the new track facility, Ninth Grade Center Extension, tennis court parking and lighting improvements, baseball and softball field parking and hitting facility, playground equipment, agricultural barn and safety enhancements.
Friday’s groundbreaking marks an important milestone in the continued transformation of the Camden County High School campus and the district’s ongoing investment in facilities designed to serve current and future generations of Camden students.
The Multipurpose Indoor Facility is currently projected for completion in late fall 2027.
