Camden County Schools is incredibly proud to celebrate Camden County High School for being named the Spring Garden of the Season by the Georgia School Nutrition Program.
This recognition is a reflection of what we see every day across our district. Our students and staff continue to bring learning to life through meaningful, real-world experiences that extend far beyond the classroom. This achievement is a powerful example of students applying their knowledge in meaningful, real-world ways that benefit both their education and their school community.
This award highlights the outstanding work taking place through the school's agriculture and FFA program, where students are actively engaged in planting, maintaining, and harvesting crops such as collard greens, broccoli, and cabbage as part of Georgia's Harvest of the Month initiative. Through this work, students are gaining real-world experience in agriculture, sustainability, and responsibility while seeing the direct results of their efforts.
What makes this accomplishment especially meaningful is the impact it has beyond the garden. Fresh produce grown by students is being shared with the school cafeteria and incorporated into student meals. This creates a powerful connection between classroom learning, student wellness, and school nutrition.
School Nutrition Director, Katrina Flannery, shared the importance of this work, saying:
By integrating Farm to School items into the school's lunch menus, the FFA program supports the Camden County School Nutrition Program's effort to provide fresh, student-driven meals, while also emphasizing the importance of healthy eating. It promotes teamwork, responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment as students see their hard work contributing to the school community.
Camden County Schools is especially proud of the full-circle story represented within this program. Agriculture Education Teacher Chelsea Begnaud, a Camden County High School graduate and former FFA student herself, now leads students in the same program that helped shape her journey. It is an inspiring example of leadership coming home to invest in the next generation.
This recognition reflects the pride felt across the Camden County Schools family and beyond. District leadership, along with representatives from the Georgia School Nutrition Program, gathered on Friday, March 20, to celebrate this accomplishment and honor the students and staff who made it possible.
Camden County Schools extends a heartfelt congratulations to Camden County High School on this outstanding achievement. The Farm to School program stands as a shining example of students who are truly ready to learn, ready to live, and ready to lead. It is also a reminder of the incredible things that happen when passion, purpose, and education come together.
