Camden County Schools held a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, January 27, at 12:00 p.m. to celebrate the start of construction on the Ninth Grade Center Extension, located at 6300 Laurel Island Parkway in Kingsland. The project marks an important milestone in supporting the continued growth and long-term needs of Camden County High School programs.
The Ninth Grade Center Extension represents a significant step forward in meeting the expanding demands of Camden County High School's State Championship wrestling program. The Boys Wrestling Team recently earned its 13th overall and 12th consecutive Dual State Championship, while the Girls Wrestling Team achieved a historic milestone, capturing the program's first-ever Dual State Championship in just its second year. The extension will provide additional space and resources to support the continued growth of both programs and strengthen the district's wrestling pipeline from youth programs in grades K-5 through middle and high school.
This extension reflects our district's commitment to supporting student achievement at the highest level. Our wrestling program exemplifies excellence, dedication, and teamwork, and this project ensures our facilities continue to grow alongside the success of our students and coaches.
- Superintendent Dr. Tracolya Green
Boys Wrestling Head Coach Jess Wilder, who has built a championship dynasty at Camden County High School, emphasized the importance of the expansion for sustaining long-term success.
This program has grown tremendously over the years, and that growth brings new needs. This extension represents an investment in our student-athletes and the work they put in every day. It provides the space necessary to continue developing our program and supporting our students at a high level.
Girls Wrestling Head Coach Abe Fernandez highlighted how the additional space will enhance daily experience for student-athletes.
This extension will make a meaningful difference for our student-athletes. Having additional, dedicated space allows us to better support training, preparation, and the overall experience for our students as the program continues to grow.
Board of Education members, district and school leaders, coaches, staff, city officials, and representatives from Pope Construction and James W. Buckley & Associates, the project's construction design partners, joined together for the ceremony, celebrating both the physical expansion of the Ninth Grade Center and the collaboration behind the project.
Camden County Schools looks forward to the completion of the Ninth Grade Center Extension, which will enhance available space, support program growth, and ensure district facilities continue to meet the needs of students for years to come.
